There are numerous difficulties that someone with hearing difficulties is going to encounter in the workplace. Starting at just general chit chat all the way to having serious phone conversations or meetings at work can cause serious problems and even stress on the individual I am going to give you three remarkably easy tips that you can use to alleviate some of this stress in your workplace. Some of these tips can even be employed in your everyday life and house.

First, and I think the most indispensable of all these tips, is simply turn on a few extra lights or open the blinds. I was looking for more information and found it here. You may be wondering exactly how this helps, but it’s actually quite straightforward if somebody is hearing-impaired and they can actually clearly see somebody’s face. They can read their lips a little bit better reducing some of the stress of asking people to repeat themselves or speak up a little bit louder.

Secondly, you should reduce the amount of background noises in the area since somebody that is hearing-impaired can become highly stressed when they can pick up and hear the background noises but not the person or thing, that they’re actually trying to focus on hearing. Now I know this one is not always possible depending on what your workplace situation is. However, it may be possible if you asked your supervisor if there’s anything that can be done. Such as maybe moving you off into another office farther away from all the noise will be a very large improvement.

Lastly, if you have an office with a lot of hard surfaces then sounds and voices in the room may be resonating. Resonating sounds are much more difficult to hear clearly, which is why it is necessary to soften up the room a bit by throwing in some cushions curtains and other types of padded furniture that can help remove the resignation from the room.
